From criminology and cyborg feminism to social welfare — seven AI courses taught by Center members, plus the interdisciplinary AI learning module.
Across AY 2023–2025, Center members offered seven AI courses: six in the Department of Sociology form a full ladder from second-year social design and third-year core theory to fourth-year applied seminars; one cross-college course, "AI for Social Good," runs in the College of Business AI program — teaching students how sociology sees AI.

AI-Assisted Social Design: How AI Changes Society
Chien-Liang Chi
Combines social-design methods with AI collaboration tools to understand AI’s impact on labor, education, life, and social structure, and to build design proposals for real problems. With 51 students in fall 2025, it is the Center’s most popular sophomore course.

AI and Cyborg Feminism
Chun-Mei Chang
Thinks through human–machine relations, the body, and boundaries from a gender-and-technology angle. Starting from Donna Haraway’s Cyborg Manifesto, it examines gender politics, bodily boundaries, and technological intimacy in the age of AI. 44 students in fall 2025.

AI in Criminology

Examines the criminology and criminal-justice challenges of AI, machine learning, and emerging technology: predictive policing, algorithms and due process, AI bias and offender discrimination, virtual financial crime, disinformation defense, crime mapping, and hands-on Python crime-data work. Nearly full at 59 students in fall 2025.

Ecological Wisdom and AI

Explores AI’s role in environmental governance, sustainability, and conservation: climate prediction, environmental monitoring, green AI, and the environmental-justice questions behind technological fixes. A senior seminar offered in spring 2026.

AI and Database Applications

A hands-on introduction to database thinking and AI tools: SQL, data cleaning, and machine learning for social research. Scheduled in spring 2024 (later suspended); the Center’s earliest data-practice course, its module is now folded into the Python and database units of "AI in Criminology."

AI for Social Good

A cross-college course on "AI for Social Good": from Gemini-AI comics and picture books, machine-learning disease-distribution analysis, and AI website building to humanitarian-crisis applications, East Asian surveillance and tech governance, elder care, gender and care automation, and the technological marginalization of the Global South — ending with a "social-impact AI prototype" that translates social problems into AI-tractable tasks.
In fall 2025, "AI for Social Good" (with the College of Business) and "AI in Criminology" (College of Humanities & Social Sciences) together enrolled 82 students, with Kebbi robots and n8n automation introduced in class. Interdisciplinary AI Learning Module跨域學習模組
Center members help design the college learning module within the university’s Digital Humanities interdisciplinary program, themed "Social Practice and Intelligent Innovation — from insight to problem-solving": students turn humanities and social-science insight into actionable data analysis, public narrative, and service prototypes.
STAGE 1 ・ Foundations (Year 1–2)
Build the AI skill base
Interdisciplinary AI applications → Introduction to Python → AI: Overview and international certification. Builds AI fundamentals and data-handling skills, with support for earning international certificates.
STAGE 2 ・ Applications (Year 2–3)
From insight to analysis
"AI and Sociology" (inequality, bias, and AI governance) and "Space, Community, and Society" (fieldwork and spatial data analysis in the Shilin community) produce verifiable insight and workable solutions.
STAGE 3 ・ Practice (Year 3–4)
Portfolio and prototype
"Cultural Landscape and Media" (digital storytelling × public communication) → "Integrated Innovation Practice" (capstone): co-creating projects with government, NGOs, and industry to deliver AI prototypes and impact assessments.
